A group of 17 indigenous people of the Warao, Taurepang and Wayu tribes participated in the General Services Course, which was done at the Indigenous Cultural and Training Centre (CCFI) between August 22 and September 13.
The training was funded by the Pan American Development Foundation (PADF) and taught at the Senai, and was offered to the beneficiaries of the CCFI who had an aptitude and interest in this area of work. The methodology used during the course included classes on theory, videos and activities that facilitated the understanding and assimilation of the topic.
The main objectives of the course are: to train participants for practicing the profession of general services, to offer a certification, which is required for many job offers, and contribute to the certified participants having access to these offers.
Livia, the teacher of the course, explained that “a professional qualification nowadays is a fundamental difference for whoever applies for a chance at a job” and this definitely includes the professionals who work in general services.
Tasks such as the organization and cleaning of work environments, control of materials and maintenance services are some of the responsibilities of these professionals, but they may vary according to the increasingly diversified segment of companies that are looking for qualified labour, such as hotels, condominiums, shopping centres, businesses or even homes.
At the end of the course, the indigenous Yelmely expressed her gratitude for having had the opportunity to learn to practice a profession in a style that can contribute to improving her quality of life and that of her family.
