To leave one\u2019s country to look for better conditions in life can be profoundly traumatic. It is a leap into the unknown, and in this process, uncertainty and insecurity can leave deep impressions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.eb.mil.br\/operacao-acolhida\">Acolhida (Welcome) Operation<\/a>, created by the Brazilian government, tries to receive them with open arms. And the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.fraterinternacional.org\/en\/\">Fraternity (FIHF)<\/a>&nbsp;is one of the partnership organizations in this collective welcoming effort.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Children especially are extremely vulnerable to insecure situations with the loss of their normal life rhythms. What needs to be done to avoid turning challenging situations into traumas is to provide security, stability, and peace.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Fraternity (FIHF) encourages continued educational processes and practices for children, young people, and adults in the five shelters under their management. Efforts are made to create safe learning environments to encourage signing up, participation and creativity through informal educational practices and playful activities that involve:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Story telling<\/li><li>Drawing and painting<\/li><li>Music<\/li><li>Body language<\/li><li>Manual work<\/li><li>Handicrafts<\/li><li>Photography workshop for young people<\/li><li>Environmental education<\/li><li>Practical activities with colors, numbers and forms<\/li><li>Incentives for reading, so that the children and young people not be severely impacted in their learning process (especially in this time of the pandemic).<\/li><li>Sports<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Playing is a serious business<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.fraterinternacional.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/Pedagogia-de-Emergencia-FFHI-6.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.fraterinternacional.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/Pedagogia-de-Emergencia-FFHI-6.jpg\" alt=\"Pedagogia de Emerg\u00eancia\" class=\"wp-image-117315\"\/><\/a><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Playing has a fundamental role in the rescue of the child\u2019s essence. It is also a powerful tool in the closing of wounds, once there is the possibility for the child to find meaning in life. Through play, the child manifests their personality and becomes organized as they build their world. It\u2019s necessary to provide conditions for the children to be able to build on a solid and positive foundation, form an opinion on what is around them, and with assurance, vent their natural need for movement, perception and exploration of the world, growing joyfully.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Music: expression of the soul and an instrument of healing for refugees<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.fraterinternacional.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/MUSICA-REFUGIADOS-INDIGENAS-VENEZUELANOS-WARAO-E_NEPA-FFHI-3.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.fraterinternacional.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/MUSICA-REFUGIADOS-INDIGENAS-VENEZUELANOS-WARAO-E_NEPA-FFHI-3.jpg\" alt=\"M\u00fasica na Miss\u00e3o Roraima\" class=\"wp-image-117571\"\/><\/a><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Music is an instrument of communication with the innermost levels of existence. Drumming, harmonization, scales and the most diverse rhythms are part of everybody\u2019s tastes, irrespective of their age, ethnicity, gender, social condition and life context.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The practice of music, more than entertainment, can symbolize healing, and is of special support for the refugees in the shelters under the management of the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.fraterinternacional.org\/en\/\">Fraternity \u2013 International Humanitarian Federation (FIHF)<\/a>,&nbsp;in partnership with the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.unhcr.org\/\">United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR)<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the Janokoida and Pintol\u00e2ndia shelters, where the indigenous of the Warao and E\u2019\u00f1epa ethnicities are housed, music came in their baggage. \u201cThey have their traditional songs, in their languages,\u201d comments the coordinator.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Music transcends geographic frontiers, cultures, and languages. Many of the indigenous children in the shelters don\u2019t speak Portuguese or Spanish \u2013 which limits spoken communication with the missionaries, but not the effects of the sounds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the Tancredo Neves shelter, one man enjoys doing musical parodies: \u201cHe sees you and begins to sing, it is very interesting,\u201d Patr\u00edcia Balloni tells us.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Scientific evidence notes the effectiveness of musical techniques in the provision of physical, emotional, mental and social needs. They contribute to improving relationship, mobilization, relaxation, expression, organization, and learning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>How Education in Emergencies helps the Humanitarian Missions<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.fraterinternacional.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/contacao-historias-refugiados-venezuelanosFFHI5.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.fraterinternacional.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/contacao-historias-refugiados-venezuelanosFFHI5.jpg\" alt=\"Conta\u00e7\u00e3o de Hist\u00f3rias\" class=\"wp-image-117483\"\/><\/a><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>The main objective of&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.freunde-waldorf.de\/en\/emergency-pedagogy\/\">Emergency Pedagogy<\/a>&nbsp;is to activate and strengthen mitigation strategies and healing of the effects caused by traumatic events.
