The Hybrid International Conference on Planning, Challenges of Disaster Management and Resilience \u2013 2022, which took place on the 11th to the 13th of February in Athens, Greece, was the stage for representatives of government and humanitarian and environmental disaster management agencies, academics, civil society and environmentalists from different regions of the world to discuss proposals to mitigate the troublesome effects of the climate crisis, the sustainable production of foods, health, economic safety and humanitarian crises.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The general manager of the Fraternity \u2013 International Humanitarian Missions (FIHM)<\/a>, Friar Luciano, was invited to speak on \u201cThe value of knowing international protocols within the context of humanitarian and emergency responses.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n

With great public participation and receptivity, one of the topics most asked about and which aroused the most interest of the participants, according to Friar Luciano, was how to adjust the protocols and parameters in the face of each scenario and context, as well as the interaction between the people being assisted and the local host communities, in terms of mutual respect for customs and cultures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The three days of the Conference were important for the discussion and collective search for the building, collaboration, communication and capitalizing on effective strategies of adaptation, and the mitigation of the climate crisis and humanitarian and emergency response. In this scenario, Friar Luciano highlights the importance of \u201call agencies and organizations involved being sensitive and responsive in order to reach those most in need, because the situations in the world thus demand it.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Workshop on the Sphere Standards<\/b><\/p>\n\n\n\n

After the Hybrid International Conference on Planning, Challenges of Disaster Management and Resilience, humanitarian workers of the<\/span>\u00a0Fraternity \u2013 International Missions(FIHM)<\/a>\u00a0did a Workshop on the 15th, on the Sphere Standards<\/a> and their applicability in humanitarian responses.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lasting four hours, there were around 20 people participating in the Workshop who are active in emergency situations, such as members of the IDAFK, the Greek agency for management of disasters, besides members of the civil defense and firefighters.<\/p>\n\n\n

Results of the Conference for the Fraternity \u2013 International Missions (FIHM)<\/b><\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to Friar Luciano, the Fraternity \u2013 International Missions (FIHM)<\/a> was invited to prepare other seminars and trainings in northern Greece with institutions that respond to emergencies, and also schools of psychology, to develop the subject of the trauma in emergency situations, as well as participating in other trainings.<\/p>\n\n\n

Institutional Perspectives for 2022<\/b><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Fraternity \u2013 International Missions (FIHM)<\/a> is mapping the demands coming forward in different contexts, countries and levels of humanitarian response, and the perspective is that until the end of 2022, the organization be able to be involved with active projects in Portugal, Greece and Spain, as well as starting humanitarian assistance points in countries on the African continent such as the Congo, Tunisia, Mozambique and Angola.<\/p>\n\n\n
