 A training based on the Sphere Standards brought together professionals from different institutions for looking deeper into protection, preparation and response practices centred on the dignity of affected populations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

 Actions taking place within the context of crises demands much more than just goodwill. It requires preparation, technical knowledge, a capacity for coordination between different actors, and above all, a permanent commitment to the dignity of the affected populations. It is in this context that the Sphere Humanitarian Standards were consolidated as one of the main international references for guiding humanitarian responses based on principles, rights, and minimum quality standards.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u00a0Having this purpose, in Porto Velho (RO), from March 21st to 23rd , representatives of different organizations participated in the in-person module of a training cycle about the Sphere Manual, carried out after five virtual modules. The training was promoted through a partnership of the Fraternity \u2013 International Humanitarian Missions (FIHM)<\/a>, the Brazilian Caritas, and other institutions, and brought together professionals who are active in different contexts of emergency and humanitarian assistance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

 Throughout the meetings, the participants explored the topics in greater depth related to the principles of protection, preparing for disasters, the participation of affected communities, and the development of humanitarian responses committed to the quality of the assistance, the responsibility, and understanding the specifics of each territory.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

 The agenda combined spoken presentations, studies of cases, simulations, group dynamics, and conversation circles that promoted a practical application of knowledge and the exchange of experiences between professionals from different areas of expertise.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Beside the training activities, the group visited local initiatives focused on taking care of people in vulnerable situations, bringing the content presented closer to the reality experienced by organizations and communities that work directly in the territories.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

 The training also provided an environment for listening, reflection, and collective construction, allowing participants to share challenges, strategies, and lessons learned from different humanitarian response scenarios.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For Arlene, from the Levanta-Te e Anda Project, based in Porto Velho, one of the main lessons learned was understanding that humanitarian crises are embedded in a global and interdependent reality.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

 “Everything is interconnected. An event, a catastrophe, regardless of its origin, ends up affecting us directly or indirectly.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

 According to her, the simulations developed during the training allowed for the analysis of situations frequently experienced during an emergency, encouraging a more attentive look at one’s own performance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

 “The dynamics helped us reflect on what we had experienced. Often, we are so caught up in responding quickly to needs that we end up acting automatically.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

 Another aspect highlighted by the participant was the interaction between professionals from different organizations and backgrounds. “When we listen to the experiences of others, we broaden our vision and realize that we can learn a lot from those around us.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For Ang\u00e9lica, a volunteer of the Fraternity \u2013 Humanitarian Missions (FIHM)<\/a>, training programs of this nature represent opportunities for growth for both the professionals and the institutions involved.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

 According to her, the willingness to continue learning and sharing experiences strengthens humanitarian action and expands the possibilities for responding in the face of different emergency contexts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u00a0“Whenever the people involved in a humanitarian response are willing to continue learning and sharing their experiences, a new possibility arises to broaden horizons and offer other responses in the contexts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She further emphasizes that the exchange between organizations is an important element for institutional strengthening. “For the team of the Fraternity \u2013 Humanitarian Missions (FIHM), it is an opportunity and a responsibility to be able to interact with agencies that develop various programs and projects, contributing to the growth of the training and development sector.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

 According to Ricardo Treno, a volunteer of the Fraternity \u2013 Humanitarian Missions (FIHM), understanding the Sphere Standards also means investing in prevention and preparedness before an emergency should occur.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

 “This training is essential in helping to prevent disasters, not just when disasters occur. The Humanitarian Standards are a key element in the development of contingency plans and action plans.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

 He emphasizes that one of the great differentiators in humanitarian work lies in the ability to build responses through dialogue with the affected communities, recognizing their specific needs and strengthening their participation in all the stages of the process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

 Ricardo also emphasizes that the Sphere Manual expresses an ethical commitment that goes beyond technical aspects. “The Humanitarian Standards are the expression of the right to a life with dignity, the right to protection and security, and the right to humanitarian assistance.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

These principles guide internationally recognized minimum standards for areas such as water supply, sanitation, food security, nutrition, shelter, and health, always with the protection of people and respect for their rights as the main focus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

 By bringing together professionals from different institutions, backgrounds, and territories, the training reaffirmed that building skilled humanitarian responses depends on continuous learning, cooperation between organizations, and the ability to transform knowledge into practice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
