International Day of the Indigenous Peoples

The International Day of the Indigenous Peoples, celebrated on August 9, is an important date for reflecting on the rights, ways of life and means of protection of these peoples, as well as contributing toward the preservation of their cultures and histories.

In it’s various activities, the Fraternity – Humanitarian Missions (FIHM), through the Indigenous Cultural and Training Centre (CCFI), located in Boa Vista, Roraima – Brazil, encourages the artistic and cultural expression, the technical-professional training, the cultural manifestation, the protection, the strengthening and exchange of indigenous cultures of the different Venezuelan, Brazilian and Guianese ethnicities.

According to data from the UN, there are close to 476 million indigenous people in the world, of which 45 million live in Latin America.
