Network-of-Light North Northeast of Brazil will conduct 5th Regional Mission in the Hinterland

From February 9 thru 13, a group of 14 representatives of the Network-of-Light North Northeast will participate in the fifth Regional Mission in the Hinterland, which will take place in the region of Palmeira dos Índios, in the State of Alagoas, Northeast of Brazil. The objective is to take water, food and health assistance services to the rural communities that suffer the prolonged drought in the region.

The drought in the hinterland this year is very rigorous, especially in the rural areas, which caused water and food shortage. “We are returning to the hinterland in a moment of great need. We have received a message from the brothers and sisters of Caritas of the region, updating us on the difficulties of the moment due to the water shortage”, said Celina, a member of the Network-of-Light North NorthEast of Brazil.

The group of missionaries of the Fraternidade – International Humanitarian Federation – which participates in the Hinterland Regional Mission, represents the states of Alagoas, Bahia, Paraíba and Sergipe. The missionaries will work in partnership with Caritas Institution and with parishes of the Diocese. “We will make distribution of donations of clothes, food stamps, medicines and also assistance to children and medical services”, explained Celina.

Missionary Workshops
The first Hinterland Mission of the Fraternidade took place in November 2014, and in the next month the Network-of-Light North Northeast began activities in the region of the hinterland of Alagoas through several Missionary Workshops. In this work, emphasis was put on the preparation of multi-mixture (enriched flour), therapeutic procedures, building of dry toilets and the preparation of dehydrated fruits and vegetables.

“In each Missionary Workshop, besides the subject in focus, we keep the attendance, the assistance to the children, the distribution of clothes and the home visits”, said Celina.
