Venezuelan Artists Express Creative Power in the Shelters in Roraima

Music, poetry, handicrafts, painting… the shelters for Venezuelan refugees in Roraima, under management of the Fraternity – International Humanitarian Federation (FIHF), have gained more color, beauty and joy through various artists that, little by little, reveal their talents.

On this August 24, which celebrates the Artist Day in Brazil, we want to honor these people who have transformed the challenges of immigration and of shelters through artistic expressions. Here, we present the work of Rondon and Alfonzo, painters that are transforming walls, barriers and monochromatic canvases into colorful landscapes, which are about the places and stories of their country of origin, or images that invite us to reflect on and become aware in due respect for nature.

Selected through a public inquiry ConVida Cultura Sesc, Rondon, 65 years old, will be able to realize his dream of teaching art to his brothers and sisters of the path, interested in learning and seeking, through painting, a future in Brazil.

The purpose of the announcement was to select educational and artistic enjoyment proposals to be digitally transmitted and distributed, in order to maintain cultural activities in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic. About 470 proposals were selected from all over Brazil.

Alfonzo

Alfonzo - Artista Venezuelano

When passing through the Transit Shelter (ATM) in Manaus, the artist Alfonzo left a work of art as a gift and asked that the following phrase be placed by it:

“In each drop of water there is a life story. Save water! Be aware!”

Follow the work of other shelter artists here.
