Army Major Chief visits the shelters of Pacaraima

Visita do Chefe Maior do Exército aos abrigos de Pacaraima

On January 9, Acolhida (Welcome) Operation, a humanitarian response carried out by the Ministries of Defense and of Citizenship together with other agencies, received a visit from the Army Major Chief, General Braga Neto, for the purpose of personally getting to know about the structure, the functioning of the shelters, and the work that is being done there by the Armed Forces.

A delegation flew by helicopter from Boa Vista to Pacaraima, and representatives of Fraternidade – International Humanitarian Federation were invited to accompany the visit to the Pacaraima shelters, including the indigenous shelter known as Janokoida, under their management.

At that shelter General Braga Neto was received by the refugee natives, who showed him the crafted objects that they make as a way of life.

On the return to Boa Vista, Friar Luciano, General Administrator of the Humanitarian Fraternidade (FIHF) presented General Braga Neto with the Fraternidade book written by Ana Regina Noqueira, which tells about the national and international missions that the Humanitarian Fraternidade has carried out since 2011.

The Humanitarian Fraternidade (FIHF) is developing a partnership with UNHCR, United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees and participates in Operation Welcome as the administrating institution of five shelters for refugees in the State of Roraima, as well as a temporary place of lodging in Manaus, where the immigrants are received for the integrating stage, in which they go through a process of rebuilding their lives in various cities of the country.
