Greece Mission – visit to a refugee camp in Athens

Monday, 22 thru Sunday, 28

During the week, the work of the missionaries of the Fraternidade – International Humanitarian Federation – at Caritas Hellas, in Athens, continued with the distribution of masculine and feminine clothes for the people assisted by that institution. The group also helped the organization (selection and making of the boxes) of a storage of donations that Caritas Hellas has in the city. This week one thousand boxes of donations were received from Germany, with clothes, accessories, footwear, blankets, and milk for children.

The missionaries conduct another visit to the feminine prison in the city of Thiva, accompanied by the Missionaries of Charity of Mother Teresa of Calcutta, who help a person imprisoned in that place.

The Missionaries of Charity also received a great donation of clothes, coming from the Greek Islands, and which was distributed with the help of the missionaries of the Fraternidade in a refugee camp for Afghans located in Athens. This refugee camp will be transferred to another place, as the authorities have had problems in controlling the camp and many refugees go to the city to beg for alms on the streets.

In the House 2 of the Missionaries of Charity, the group helped the finalizing of the work of renovation of the closets where those sheltered keep their belongings.

At the Orthodox Church of Saint Theodore, in the city of Anavissos, the  missionaries continued the task of preparation of food which is served to poor people and the organization of the storage of clothes for donation.

“In this time of the year, between seasons, many donations of clothes are usually received, so we are having a lot of  work in this storage, where we also make the weekly distribution of the clothes”, said Shen, a missionary of the Fraternidade.
