Roraima Mission begins the Project for the Production of Masks for Venezuelan Shelter Refugees

Members of the Roraima Mission began the implementation of the project for making 2,400 masks in the shelters managed by the Fraternity – International Humanitarian Federation (FIHF). Through the partnership with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), the team managed to provide all the materials, such as the sewing machines, fabrics, needles, tape measures, and irons.

With close to 1,880 peoples in the shelters, the purchase of disposable masks was not possible because of the price and environmental concerns. The production process was structured step by step according to the procedure created by the Acolhida (Welcome) Operation and other institutions that are also producing masks.

This work is also an opportunity for the community to get involved, because it provides the shelters with a natural reason for thinking about and being aware of the measures for prevention and care concerning the coronavirus. Besides that, the project has the goal of providing basic ideas on sewing techniques, an activity that can contribute to the creation of lasting solutions for this group of people.
