Roraima Humanitarian Mission

The Roraima Humanitarian Mission is a response to the crisis that has led thousands of Venezuelans to cross the border into Brazil. It became a permanent initiative when the real extent of the refugee situation was identified.

Volunteer missionaries provide humanitarian aid to Venezuelan migrants and refugees, including indigenous peoples, especially the Warao and E’ñepa ethnic groups.

The Fraternity – Humanitarian (FFHI), in partnership with the UN Agency for Refugees (UNHCR), and several international organizations and agencies, act in this humanitarian response by serving more than 2,000 people daily in the shelters under its management.

The basic principle of the refugee support structure for the Fraternity – Humanitarian (FFHI) is the relief of pain and the rescue of human dignity.

Activities

Management of 1 shelter in Pacaraima, 4 shelters in the city of Boa Vista and the Transit Accommodation of Manaus (ATM).
The focus is the action with the indigenous refugees, which is the most vulnerable population in this situation of humanitarian crisis.
Support in the provision of food services, basic health, shelter, education, conflict management and protection.
Development of art-education activities in emergency situations for children and adolescents, which, through recreational activities, aims at reducing the trauma caused by forced displacement, as well as the provision of a safe space for the detection and prevention of protective cases. About 50% of the shelter population is made up of children.
Development and management of livelihood projects, valuing and preserving the indigenous culture.

SHELTERS IN RORAIMA

Pintolândia

Reception and protection of indigenous refugees from the Warao ethnic group. It accommodates about 590 people, of whom an average of 310 are children.
Boa Vista, RR.

Jardim Floresta

Reception and protection of indigenous refugees from the Warao and E’ñepa ethnic groups. It has been in operation since December 2020. It accommodates around 450 people, of whom 220 are children. Boa Vista, RR.

Janokoida

Reception and protection of Indigenous Venezuelans of the Warao ethnic group. It accommodates about 390 people, of whom around 200 are children. Pacaraima, RR.

Nova Canaã

Foi reativado para atender especificamente indígenas venezuelanos refugiados. Acolhe em torno de 300 pessoas, das quais, cerca de 45% são menores de 18 anos. Boa Vista, RR.

2021

Atua na gestão dos 5 abrigos indígenas em Roraima, Brasil e no Alojamento de Trânsito de Manaus, Amazonas, Brasil.

Dezembro de 2021 – Encerramento das atividades em parceria com o ACNUR.

2020

Foi convidada pela Operação Acolhida e pelo ACNUR, para assumir a resposta humanitária em todos os abrigos indígenas no estado de Roraima, Brasil.

2019

Assume a gestão do Alojamento de Trânsito em Manaus (ATM) como parte do Programa de Interiorização, desenvolvido pela Operação Acolhida. Inicia projeto de WASH (abastecimento de água, saneamento básico e promoção de higiene) em parceria com o UNICEF.

2018

Inicia parceria com o UNICEF para a implementação do projeto de Educação “O Bem Comum”. Integra-se à resposta do governo federal a Operação Acolhida.

2017

Inicia a parceria com o ACNUR e assume, como parceiro implementador, a gestão dos abrigos não indígenas: Tancredo Neves e Nova Canaã, além dos abrigos indígenas Pintolândia e Janokoida.

2016-2017

Inicia a gestão do abrigo Pintolândia para indígenas e não indígenas em Boa Vista, em parceria com a SETRABES e a Defesa Civil.

2016

Primeira instituição a chegar a Boa Vista para oferecer assistência aos migrantes venezuelanos.
