The Fraternity – Humanitarian Missions (FIHM) carries out collective initiatives (mutirões) in Portugal

An average of 30 members of the Flor de Lys Light-Community, Monastery, Portugal Light-Network and team of humanitarian workers – all members of the Fraternity– International Humanitarian Federation (FIHF), have participated in collective initiatives taking place on Saturdays at the Casa de São José. These are group work initiatives striving for common objectives among the members of the affiliates.

The objective of the ‘mutirões’ is both to establish the foundations of the humanitarian workers’ house, which is also the Headquarters of the Fraternity –International Humanitarian Missions (FIHM) in Portugal, and to reinforce the first activities of the Food Project, which in the first stage aims to supply the group with goods produced that are reused and benefited from, expanding sustainability.

The following activities have already been carried out, administered by the group itself:

  • Organization of the vegetable garden, planting and sowing
  • Composter
  • Production of Eco-enzymes
  • Fruit and vegetable dehydration
  • Sewing activities

The ‘mutirões’ are an opportunity for the sharing of knowledge and experiences, tools that reinforce the ties between the participants, expanding the living of fraternity and fostering profound transformations.

For Anderson Santiago, humanitarian worker and manager of the sector of Education in Emergency and Humanitarian Response Situations, “the collective initiatives are one of the operative expressions of unity of the group. Through the activities and tasks, a common moment is experienced for the common good. This is the true value of ‘mutirões’.
