Trajectory of a Mission Documentary

More than five years of the Brazilian response to the Venezuelan migratory crisis

This Thursday at 8 pm, the Fraternity – InternationalHumanitarian Federation (FIHF) launched the Documentary on the Trajectory of a Mission, which celebrates the more than five years of its work in the Brazilian response to the Venezuelan migratory crisis.

The organization was the first to arrive in the region in 2016 for an emergency mission that, due to the continual demand, became a permanent mission.

This narrative is built through the stories told by immigrants and refugees, and humanitarian workers who are active in the State of Roraima and in Manaus, who dream about and work for a better future, more homelike, and making it possible for thousands of Venezuelan citizens to rebuild their lives in Brazil.

History of the actions of the Humanitarian Fraternity (FIHF) in the response to the Venezuelan crisis

In 2016, touched by the Venezuelan migratory crisis in northern Brazil, which had begun to intensify, the Humanitarian Fraternity(FIHF) sent the first group of humanitarian workers to Boa Vista. Thus  in November of that year, the RoraimaHumanitarian Mission was born.

Since then, it has been more than five years of uninterrupted actions in the humanitarian response to the Venezuelan peoples. During that period, different stages followed one after the other, and the Humanitarian Fraternity (FIHF), because of having been a pioneer in this response, participated in all the phases, and continues to work in the improvement of humanitarian aid.

According to the United Nations (UN), at the end of 2022 there will be 8.9 million Venezuelan immigrants and refugees living in 17 countries of Latin America, this being one of the greatest displacement crises in the world. Brazil is their fifth most sought-after destination.

Since the beginning of Operation Welcome in 2018, more than 70 thousand Venezuelans have already been interiorized to 600 cities in 26 Brazilian states.

Challenges of a humanitarian response: building durable solutions

The big challenge in any humanitarian response, throughout the world, is to find alternatives for the socioeconomic insertion of the refugees into the host community, so that in this way, they can free themselves from the social assistance and rebuild their lives in a dignified manner. This scenario shifted the humanitarian response as a whole to aim for a LastingSolutions path.

In search of lasting solutions in livelihoods, various courses are offered at the Indigenous Cultural and Training Center (ICTC) so that the shelter residents can have access to the job market and are able to continue their lives independently.

The Humanitarian Fraternity (FIHF) has been especially encouraging entrepreneurship, bringing in the necessary elements so that the shelter residents can develop quality products and competitively enter the market. A partnership with other institutions, also invested in the building of lasting solutions for the refugees, has been extremely valuable in making that goal achievable.

Throughout these more than 5 years of the RoraimaHumanitarian Mission, the Humanitarian Fraternity (FIHF) has been seeking to perfect their actions in the humanitarian response, through them expressing their ethical values, awakening fraternity and the common good. On this trajectory, it weaves paths of love, solidarity, selfless service, care and respect for the Venezuelan peoples.
