The Argentine Light-Network participated in the Sphere Handbook training

The Training and Development Sector (T&D) of Fraternity – International Humanitarian Federation (FIHF), began in May with a training course of nine modules on the Sphere Handbook for the Argentine Light-Network. The training came as a response to a request of the Light-Network from Southern Argentina, brought about because of the situation of the fires that occurred in the southern region of the country in the last months, but it ended up including the whole of the Argentine Light-Network.

“This group was concerned about being able to provide some sort of response in the future to the question of the fires that were occurring in the south of the country, and this training is an approach to this humanitarian response, which aims to share practical forms and approaches that allow them to understand the situation and take action,” explains Angélica del Luján Baglivo, a member of the coordinating teams of the T&Dand the Headquarters Secretariat.

The first three training modules were connected to the content of the Sphere Handbook, the essential chapters and the technical chapters, and the approach for the application of the Sphere Standards in Urban Scenarios. The average number of participants exceed120 people, and according to Angelica, in spite of it being a heterogenous group, it was very focused and showed a high degree of commitment, readiness for proposals, as well as the willingness to make the necessary effort to go through the new steps that a new learning implies.

“The course really gave me very new tools and knowledge for this time. The classes were very clear and the subjects addressed were explained with concrete examples of emergency situations and humanitarian actions. The course agenda was very broad and complete,” evaluated the participant of the course, Gladys Romero.

Marisa Gatti, a member of the Southern Argentine Light-Network, highlighted the importance of the training, not only for those who will directly participate in humanitarian missions: “I believe that this preparation serves us all in case of a possible situation in our particular places,” she added.

Angelica also spoke about the experience of the instructor: “This process of adapting our visions to other needs has been very enriching. Virtually is also a challenge that allows us to work on our tolerance, our limitations. We know that group work always stimulates common growth, even though this is a virtual group.”
